You've seen it on exotics: a marbled, chaotic pattern instead of the familiar woven grid. That's forged carbon fiber. Here's what it is and whether it's right for your car.
What is forged carbon fiber?
Forged carbon is made from chopped carbon fiber strands mixed with resin and compression-molded under high pressure. Because the fibers are randomly oriented, you get a distinctive swirled, marbled look rather than a uniform weave — and no two pieces are exactly alike.
Forged vs. woven carbon
Woven (twill) carbon has the classic checkerboard pattern and is ideal for large flat panels. Forged carbon molds into complex shapes more easily and has a unique appearance. Strength is comparable for most uses; the main difference is aesthetic and moldability.
Is it worth it?
If you want a premium, exotic look that stands apart from every other carbon build, forged carbon delivers — especially on steering wheels and interior accents where the marbled pattern is on full display.
