A carbon fiber hood is one of the most dramatic upgrades you can make — and installing it yourself is doable with care. Here's how to do it without cracking the clear coat.
What you'll need
- A second person (hoods are awkward and the clear coat scratches easily)
- Socket set, painter's tape, and a blanket or padded surface
- Optional: hood pins or quick-release latches
Step by step
- Open the hood and mark the hinge-bolt positions with tape so you can realign.
- Disconnect any washer lines or sensors.
- With a helper, unbolt the hood from the hinges and lift it straight up and off — set it face-up on a blanket.
- Transfer hardware and bolt the new carbon hood loosely to the hinges.
- Align to your tape marks, check panel gaps, then torque the bolts.
Protecting the clear coat
Never set a hood face-down on concrete. Tape contact points during alignment and don't overtighten — carbon doesn't flex like steel. Always test fit before final torque.
Fitment first
Confirm year, trim, and generation before ordering. Browse carbon fiber hoods by vehicle, or check the full catalog. Professional installation is recommended for exterior carbon.
