Carbon fiber is durable, but the clear coat that protects it needs a little care to stay glossy and yellow-free for years. Follow these steps to keep your parts looking new.
Why the clear coat matters
Raw carbon fiber and its resin degrade under UV light. A UV-stable clear coat is what prevents the dreaded yellow or cloudy haze, so protecting that coat is the key to longevity.
How to clean carbon fiber
- Wash with pH-neutral car shampoo and a soft microfiber mitt — no abrasive sponges.
- Dry with a clean microfiber towel to avoid water spots.
- Avoid harsh solvents and degreasers, which can dull the clear coat.
Protecting against UV and fading
Apply a quality carnauba wax or a paint sealant a few times a year; a ceramic coating adds the strongest UV and chemical protection. Parts that live in constant sun — hoods, roofs — benefit from more frequent protection.
Storage and install tips
Store parts flat, out of direct sun, and keep packaging until you've test-fit. Carbon Plug parts ship with a UV-resistant clear coat already applied — your job is just to maintain it. Browse hoods, interior kits, and more in the catalog.
